In the future, I plan to continue the support and love I have for animals throughout my community. When given the time, I hope to volunteer at no kill shelters and continue to take in as many animals as I can. I would like to start fostering as well. Fostering will allow me to help an animal in need without taking on the life long commitment of another dog, or cat.

This project has opened my eyes on the situations of so many abandoned pets. The way these animals are treated, as if they are not even living things, is making them means to an end. People adopt them and give them up much to easily, without thinking in regards to how that will effect the aminals themselves. If they make it to a shelter their days are numbered. They are almost better off in the wild, but domesticated animals do not do well without constant care. I now see the importance and necceissary support it takes to have a pet. In the future, when I get a pet, I will undoubtably get one from a shelter. If one applied John Stuart Mills views of Utilitarianism to animals as well, and considered their happiness as a group above ones own, they would see how the current system of care for animals is fundemantaly flawed. I hope to strive to inprove it.

In-Class Inspirational Speech Plan

-Open with a general summery of perspectives on animal shelters and explain how we found our direction.

-Show the video to make an emotional impact on people, strengthing the message.

-Tie ethical values in: Immanuel Kant's view on not treating animals as a means to an ends, and rather as the ends themselves, and John Stuart Mills uttilitarian views pertaining to how the happiness of all animals in shelters outweighs the happiness of the few employees who would have reduced pay if they were kept longer. Eliminating animals to make your job easier is the most atrochious and inhumane practice, it shows selfish some people can be.

-Talk about the future direction and how this project affected us personaly.

-Encourage people to adopt.
